Hope Springs Farm's Four-Season Greenhouse

Hope Springs Farm Growers and administrators enjoyed another busy harvest season and are hoping to see the completion of a four-season greenhouse, so they will be able to keep gardening and growing through the winter.

Cabin fever is a reality in Pennsylvania, especially when the season is as long and cold as it was last year. The farm is no exception. Having a greenhouse to extend the growing season to 12 months has been on Hope Spring Farm's wish-list for a long time.

We're very excited to announce that we are moving forward," says Nina Rovner, co-founder of Hope Springs Farm. The program will soon have a four-season greenhouse that will be heated for winter use. It will be large enough for several raised beds, an activity area and planting tables.

The greenhouse will be used to grow vegetables, herbs and ornamental flowers.

Special thanks
Hope Springs Farm would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Ashcombe's Farm & Greenhouses, Kirsten Reinford of The Joshua Farm, and Delaware Valley College for taking the time to answer many questions and provide hands-on greenhouse-management training.

Hope Springs Farm Welcomes New Faces

HSF Goats

Four pygmy goats were born this summer... two boys and two girls.

HSF Baby Horse

It's a boy! In mid-August we welcomed a new colt, Brownie. While we were prime to deliver the foal, Bunny had her own birthing plan and delivered in private while she was in the pasture.

HSF Pigs

Pigs can fly! HSF miniature pigs flew to HIA from Tampa in mid-summer. They will weigh in at just 7 pounds when they are grown.

Summer's Past
Summer 2011 was a great season, but the Growers and staff are looking forward to a new greenhouse and an exciting winter.
